Sunday, July 6 the newly established Upper Hunter Country Education Fund gathered at Two Rivers Winery Denman.
In attendance were the committee as well as representatives from the local and Scottish community including Lord Sempill visiting for the Aberdeen Highland Games and Member for the Upper Hunter George Souris.
A presentation of $2,475 was made from the Scone Scots by Jan Crawford.
This money along with valuable support from Hunter Mutual, the Country Education Foundation Limited (the National Body) and Belltress Country House will enable the Upper Hunter Country Education Fund to provide grants for local youth leaving high school who need financial support and encouragement to achieve their further education or vocational goals.
Chief Executive Officer of the Country Education Foundation, Jocelyn Janssen spoke of the importance of the twenty seven community regional organisations around Australia operating in conjunction with the Foundation that support a broad range of young peoples abilities and interests.
The various Country Education Foundations have supported young people into further study and vocation in areas such as teaching, Industry, medicine, health, mining and resources, agriculture, music, science, banking/commerce, environment and community welfare.
The Upper Hunter Country Education Fund will officially launch the 2008 scholarship programme at St Joseph’s High School on Tuesda,y July 29 at 7pm in the school library.

The president of the fund, Duncan Macintyre said that special recognition must be given to the Foundation Sponsor of the Fund, Hunter Mutual.
“It is thanks to Hunter Mutual’s great generosity and far sighted community involvement that the Fund has really now kicked off. We hope to be able to provide meaningful support to appropriate Upper Hunter candidates for tertiary education over the coming years,” Mr Macintyre said
